Sphagnum moss is an excellent substrate for rooting cuttings, making support poles for climbing plants, and as a growing medium for certain plants such as orchids and more. It is used because of its exceptional ability to retain moisture. Our high-quality moss is sustainably harvested. The fibers are longer than usual, which makes it easier to work with and reduces mess. We offer packaging of approximately 100 g or 3 L.

PLANT CARE

Net quantity per package: 3 L or approximately 100 g. The weight may vary depending on the moisture content of the moss.

Origin: Chile

Properties:

  • pH 4.5–5

  • free of chemicals and additives

  • 100% natural

  • cleaned and free of debris

Usage:

– Rooting cuttings with sphagnum moss:

Soak the required amount of moss, leave it for a few minutes, then squeeze out the excess water. Place the moss in a closed container or plastic bag and wrap it around the parts of the cuttings where you expect roots to form. Add water if the moss dries out over time.

– Rooting climbing plants using the “air layering” method:

Some rarer climbing plants are propagated using air layering. This method is the least stressful for the plant, giving the cutting the best chance of survival and rooting. Soak and squeeze the moss, then wrap it around the node where roots are expected to grow. Secure the moss with string and wrap it in plastic film or a bag to prevent drying. Check the moisture regularly and rehydrate when necessary.

– Making support poles:

Choose a pole of suitable height for your plant. Soak and squeeze the moss, then wrap it around the pole in small sections and tie it with natural string. Do not wrap moss around the bottom part of the pole, as it will be inserted into the soil for stability. Place the pole in the soil next to the plant and tie the plant onto it.

– Sphagnum moss as a substrate:

Sphagnum moss has a slightly acidic pH and is safe for plants. Soak and squeeze the moss, place it into a pot, and plant the plant directly into the moss without soil. Add enough moss to keep the plant stable. Do not compress the moss tightly—keep it airy! Moss retains a lot of water and may cause root rot if kept too wet. Regularly check moisture levels and water or fertilize according to the plant’s needs.
