Monstera Obliqua is one of the rarest plants on the market, making it the perfect gift for any plant enthusiast. Native to the tropical regions of Central America and the island of Trinidad, it is naturally quite scarce. It closely resembles Monstera Adansonii (Monkey Mask), sharing a similar leaf shape and perforations, which often leads to confusion—M. Adansonii is frequently mislabeled as Obliqua. Like all Monsteras, it is a climber, but it grows more slowly. This species is sensitive to environmental conditions and requires attentive care. It also grows well in terrariums.

PLANT CARE

Light     Bright, indirect sunlight or few hours of direct sun. Can handle lower light spaces, but she will not be thrilled.

Water    in moderation allowing the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out completely between waterings. In active growth season (spring and summer), water her more frequently  (roughly every 7 days, depending on your environment) and in fall and winter, reduce watering as growth slows (about every 10 days, or when the soil is almost dry).

Repotting and feeding    She will love our Tropical soil mix or Semi-hydro mix. Feed her once a month in growing season with balanced NPK fertilizer

Toxicity    She is toxic. Keep away from pets and children.

Common problems and solutions

1. Leaves turning yellow - She is not happy with your underwatering or light conditions. Try to move her near a window. If the soil is moist - there is a chance of root rot.

2. Plant not growing  - not enough sun or water or both, some NPK fertilizer may also help.

3. Pest - thrips do love this plant. the leaves will be weirdly shaped and colored, sometime with silver sheen. Try washing the leaves and use neem oil.

Pro tip    give her a pole to climb on. She will love sphagnum moss pole or coconut husk pole.
