The crocodile fern (Microsorum mus. ‘Crocodyllus’) is perfect for shady bathrooms! Not only does its crocodile-like pattern fit beautifully with the space, but it also loves high humidity and doesn’t require much light. Like a crocodile, it enjoys moisture, but it doesn’t like to be constantly wet.

PLANT CARE

Light    The plant doesn’t need much light. It will grow nicely even in a slightly darker corner or in a space without direct sunlight, which can burn its leaves.

Water

The plant doesn’t like to dry out completely between waterings. Watering about once a week is usually enough. If the soil is still wet after a week, it may mean the plant isn’t getting enough light or the soil or pot isn’t suitable.

Humidity    Loves high humidity (over 40%).

Do you need to improve humidity level in your place? Here are our recommendations.

Repotting and feeding   It will thrive best in our 'Universal' Houseplant soil mix. During the growing season, you can feed it once a month with a balanced NPK fertilizer.

Toxicity   These plants are non-toxic, making them safe for homes with young children and pets.

Common problems and solutions

  1. Brown leaves – This is often a sign of low humidity or too much direct sun. Ensure proper watering and diffuse light, and move it to a more humid spot if needed.
  2. Discoloration on the leaves with silvery sheen - Thrips will love to suck the life out of big plants like that. To get rid of them, you can use Neem oil.
  3. Yellow leaves – Older leaves may naturally turn yellow and fall off – this is a normal part of growth. If it happens often, you can move the plant to a brighter spot. Also check the soil: it may need watering, or it may have been overwatered, causing root damage.
  4. Slow growth - plant needs more light or/and fertilizer for growth.

Pro tip    Regularly remove dead leaves to encourage new, healthy growth.
