Peperomia Argyreia or simply “Watermelon Peperomia” is a popular houseplant with large, round leaves patterned in silver and green that resemble a watermelon. It prefers a bright spot with a few hours of direct sunlight and relatively moist soil. Since it loves to “flirt” with the sun, we recommend rotating it regularly. It’s non-toxic, making it safe for pets, though not exactly edible. 😉

PLANT CARE

Light     Thrives best in a bright spot with indirect light. It will also enjoy a few hours of direct sunlight in the morning or late afternoon. In a darker space, it won’t be very happy.

Water    Water moderately. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. In winter, it needs less water. Overwatering can lead to root rot. If the soil stays wet for a long time, the plant may not be getting enough light or may not be in a suitable substrate.

Humidity    Prefers moderate to high humidity (above 40%), but also adapts well to normal indoor humidity.

Do you need to improve humidity level in your place? Here are our recommendations.

Repotting and feeding    She will love our Universal soil mix. Feed her once a month in growing season with balanced NPK fertilizer

Toxicity    She is not toxic, making her suitable for homes with small children and pets.

Common problems and solutions

  1. Drooping leaves – Most often caused by improper watering. The plant may be under- or overwatered – check the soil and water if needed, or ensure there’s no root rot.
  2. Broken leaves – Leaves are very sturdy and can break. No worries: place the leaf on moist soil and a new plant will grow from it.
  3. Leggy growth – The plant isn’t getting enough light. Move it to a brighter spot and rotate occasionally for more even growth.
  4. Pests -  Discoloration on the leaves with silvery sheen, brown spots or fine webbing - Thrips and spider mites will love to suck the life out of plants like that. Get rid of them, try showering the plant and use neem oil.

Pro tip     Rotate the plant occasionally to encourage more even growth.
